Terms of use
Dan & Dragons Companion
Version 1 · Effective date: 1 November 2026 · Last updated: 1 November 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Daniel Christiani, an individual developer in the Netherlands ("we", "us"), who makes the Dan & Dragons Companion app ("the app"). By creating an account you accept these terms and our privacy policy. If you don't accept them, don't use the app.
1. What the app is
Dan & Dragons Companion is a campaign companion for groups playing 5e-compatible tabletop roleplaying games. A Dungeon Master ("DM") creates a campaign and invites players with an invite code. The group shares characters, NPCs, maps, lore and a session journal, and each player keeps track of their own inventory.
The app is free. It has no ads and no in-app purchases.
2. Who may use it
You must be 16 years or older to create an account and use the app. By creating an account you confirm that you are.
3. Your account
- Give a real email address that you can receive mail at, and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- An account is for one person. Don't share it, and don't create accounts for someone else.
- Your display name is shown to the other members of your campaigns. Don't use a name that impersonates someone else or breaks section 5.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time (Profile → Delete account). What that deletes is described in the privacy policy.
4. Your content
"Your content" is everything you add to the app: campaigns, descriptions, characters, backstories, notes, recaps, NPCs, maps, lore, item names and notes, and images.
- You keep the rights to your content. You give us a non-exclusive, free licence to store, copy, resize and show it, only as far as needed to run the app for you and the members of your campaigns. The licence ends when the content is deleted.
- Only add content you have the right to use. Don't upload images or text that belong to someone else without their permission.
- Who sees it depends on where you put it. Most campaign content is visible to every member of the campaign; the DM decides when hidden NPCs, maps, lore and recaps become visible to players; a player's inventory, coins and private notes are visible to that player and the campaign's DM. The privacy policy explains this in full.
- You are responsible for your content. We don't check content before it appears, but we may look at content that is reported to us (section 6).
5. What is not allowed
You may not use the app to post, upload or share content, or to behave in a way, that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone, or encourages others to do so;
- is hateful or discriminatory towards people because of who they are, such as their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age;
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises minors in any way;
- shows or glorifies real violence, self-harm or cruelty to animals;
- is illegal, or promotes or helps with anything illegal;
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights, including sharing other people's personal information without their permission;
- impersonates another person, or misleads others about who you are;
- contains spam, advertising, malware or links meant to deceive.
You also may not:
- try to get into accounts, campaigns or data that aren't yours, or get around the app's security or limits;
- copy data out of the app automatically (scraping), or overload or disrupt the app or the services it runs on;
- reverse engineer the app in order to do any of the above.
Inside a game, fiction is fine: villains, battles and dark themes are part of tabletop roleplaying. The rules above are about real people and real harm, and about content that would be illegal or explicit no matter how it is framed.
6. Reports and enforcement
- With the Report buttons in the app, members of a campaign can report what others have added to it (NPCs, maps, lore, characters, session recaps and session notes) and the other members themselves, and players can report the campaign itself. Reports go to the developer, not to the DM or the other players.
- We review reports and may, at our own discretion: remove content, remove a member from a campaign, delete a campaign, or suspend or delete an account. We do this when content or behaviour breaks these terms or the law, or when we have to protect other users, the app or ourselves. Where we can and it is appropriate, we tell the person concerned why.
- Don't misuse reports, for example to harass someone.
- If we learn of content that is clearly illegal, we may pass it on to the authorities where the law requires or allows it.
7. The DM's role
The DM of a campaign decides who is in it (they share the invite code, and can remove players), what players can see, and whether the campaign continues. If the DM deletes the campaign or their account, the campaign and everything in it, including players' characters and notes, is deleted for everyone. Keep your own copy of anything you want to keep.
8. Rules content and trademarks
- The app includes item data from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 ("SRD 5.2.1") by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd. The SRD 5.2.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.
- Dan & Dragons Companion is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast.
- The Dan & Dragons name and logo, the app's design and its own item content ("Dan & Dragons originals") belong to the developer. You may not use them except as part of using the app.
9. Availability and changes to the app
We work to keep the app running and your data safe, but we can't promise that it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features, change limits (such as the number of campaigns or players), and we may stop offering the app. If we stop, we will announce it in the app or on dananddragons.com at least 30 days in advance where we can, so you have time to save what you want to keep.
10. Liability
The app is provided free of charge and "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that results from using the app or from not being able to use it, including lost content. This does not limit any liability that cannot be limited under Dutch law, such as liability for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, and it does not affect your rights as a consumer.
11. Ending
- You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or delete your account if you break these terms (section 6), or when we stop offering the app (section 9).
12. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we publish the new text here with a new version number. When the version changes, the app asks you to accept the new terms before you continue; if you don't accept them, you can delete your account.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection that the consumer law of that country gives you and may also go to the courts there. If you live outside the EU, you keep any protection that mandatory consumer law in your country gives you; nothing in these terms takes it away.
Google Play distributes the app but is not a party to these terms.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms, or something to report outside the app: info@dananddragons.com.
