Crimson Guard

Steel of the Crown. Shield of the Flame
The Crimson Guard is the military backbone of Myrcathis — a disciplined, relentless force sworn to uphold the King’s peace and defend
the kingdom within its towering walls. Where the Inquisition enforces purity through faith and fire, the Crimson Guard protects
Myrcathis through order, vigilance, and the sword.
They are the first line of defense on the battlements, the silent watchers of Sanctovar’s streets, and the unyielding
wall between the people and chaos.
History
The Crimson Guard traces its origins back to King Alaric Myrcathis II, who commanded the raising
of the great northern walls. As the kingdom sealed itself from the horrors outside, a military
force loyal only to the Crown was needed to guard its gates and enforce its laws.
During the Great Purge under King Aleandar III, the Crimson Guard worked alongside the
Inquisition, containing riots, transporting prisoners, and maintaining order as the kingdom
was reshaped by fear and fire.
In modern times under King Vaelor Myrcathis IV, their role has shifted from mass purges
to strict enforcement. They still patrol every city, town, and border tower, ensuring
obedience to both Crown and Doctrine. Though the Inquisition judges souls, it is the Crimson Guard
who keeps the streets quiet.
Hierarchy
The Guard is structured with military precision, its ranks forged by years of harsh training.
-
Captain of the Flame
The highest commander of the Guard within Sanctovar.
Oversees all military operations, city security, and cooperation with the Inquisition.
-
Wallwardens
Elite sentinels stationed permanently atop the northern wall.
They are sworn never to abandon their post and are revered as the kingdom’s silent protectors.
-
Crimson Blades
The core soldiers of the Guard.
Patrolling the streets, manning the gates, escorting officials, and quelling unrest, they are the iron presence
seen daily throughout Myrcathis. (Click here for more information.)
-
Recruits of the FLame
New initiates undergoing the rigorous training that shapes the Guard’s unwavering discipline.
Every rank serves the King directly, though the Inquisition often claims authority during matters of purity — a
source of tension that most citizens wisely avoid questioning.
Purpose & Methods
The Crimson Guard serves three primary roles in Myrcathis:
- Protect the Kingdom
They patrol the walls, guard the harbors, and respond to threats from outside or within. No soldier takes this duty lightly; the horrors beyond
the kingdom are said to hunger for human blood.
- Uphold Order
Riots, disputes, heresy whispers, and crimes fall under their watch. The Guard maintains control with discipline, fear, and steel.
- Enforce Royal Decree
They escort inquisitors, secure executions, and ensure every citizen follows the laws set by King Vaelor and the Doctrine.
Their armor, painted black and crimson, bears the crowned sun of Myrcathis — a constant reminder that every blade they carry
belongs to the King.
